‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Trailer Shows the Hunt for the Jedi

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMarch 9, 2022

There’s been much talk of LucasFilm working on a solo Obi-Wan project. First, it was as a film, riding on the coattails of then upcoming Solo, but then re-tooled as a TV show after The Mandalorian gained critical and fan praise. Now, after much news of casting and speculation, we have our first look at this new show:

The trailer finds Obi-Wan hiding out on Tatooine, keeping an eye out on young Luke Skywalker, living with his aunt and uncle. However, that doesn’t mean they’re safe. The Empire is on the hunt for the last Jedi who weren’t killed during Order 66. The narration highlights that the Jedi can’t help but try and help those around them, and that their compassion will make them easy to find. And while we know Obi-Wan has to live to see Luke grow up, that doesn’t mean other characters won’t meet grisly ends.

Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor reprising his role as Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Hayden Christensen will also be reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will play young Owen and Beru Lars, as they did in the prequels. Moses Ingram plays an Inquisitor, who is hunting down Jedi in hiding. Also in the cast in unspecified roles are Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

Sadly, it looks like this is just a limited series, meaning it’ll be a one-and-done deal, but if the show lives up to even half the hype of the trailer, fans are sure to be delighted. And we might even see him pop up in other shows down the line.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ starting on May 25, 2022.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
