No, There is No Pause Button in Elden Ring and That’s Ok

By Keith MitchellFebruary 24, 2022
Elden Ring

The gaming world is extremely excited for tomorrow’s release of Elden Ring and for good reason. In my opinion, it’s the best Soulslike game that Fromsoftware has ever released. But you can read my review for more. However, I have noticed there is some frustration over the omission of being able to pause the game. Yes, Elden Ring, just like the previous Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls titles, does not feature a pause button.

And for many, that’s a huge issue. Imagine having to step away from the game for a while, but you’re in the middle of a dungeon crawl. Stepping away will surely lead to an early demise unless you’re near a Site of Grace. However, not all is lost and we’re going to tell you how you can easily step away without issue.

There’s no pause in Elden Ring, what do you do?

Again, there’s no pause in Elden Ring, but you can still save your place even if you aren’t near a Site of Grace. How? Well, it’s as simple as quitting the game. That’s it. Why and how does this work?

As you place Elden Ring, and just like previous games, the game is constantly saving your status. I believe it’s every 5 or 6 seconds. And this is why quitting the game works. The game will save your last state, and as long as you are alive, your game status will be preserved. Then, you can load the game back up and you’ll be right where you left off. Every enemy that you killed will still be dead, and items that you may on enemies bodies will be right there for you to loot.

You can either quit the game properly, or you can power off your console or Alt-F4 if you’re playing on the PC. Either way, quitting will act as a pause for the game.

It’s that simple! Now, venture into Elden Ring when it releases on February 25, 2022, and don’t worry about missing a pause button.
