Crysis 4 Is Officially A Thing

By Keith MitchellJanuary 26, 2022
Crysis 4 in development

They call me Prophet

It’s been a decade since the original Crysis melted every piece of hardware that was attempted to run the game on. Now, we could be on the verge of a repeat, as Crytek has officially announced it is working on Crysis 4. Yep, it’s back!

“To everyone in our amazing Crysis community, and to all fans of the franchise all around the world: we have a special announcement to make, just for you. It’s something you have been asking us for a long time, so it’s now finally time to confirm – yes, the next Crysis game is happening! We are so pleased and excited to bring this news to you, and we really can’t wait to reveal more details about what lies ahead. Right now the game is in the early stages of development so it will be a while yet, but we wanted to bring you the news at this time as we are so hyped for the future, and to let you know that we will be listening to our community.” stated Crytek’s CEO Avni Yerli.

When Crysis 3 ended, we saw “Prophet”, in a fully symbiotic nanosuit, on a beach. Before the ending closes out, we see the helmet of the suit get removed, showing the face of Laurence Barnes. Of course, fans of the series will remember that at the beginning of Crysis 2, Laurence Barnes had given away the suit to another person, Alcatraz. Then Barnes committed suicide. Of course, that wasn’t the end of Barnes and throughout Crysis 2 and Crysis 3, the suit had slowly started to take over Alcatraz. Replacing his existence with that of Laurence Barnes. It was Laurence Barnes who first wore the suit and just like a symbiotic, the suit absorbed Barnes. Even in death, Barnes was still running the show, as we see at the end of Crysis 3.

With Crysis 4, we don’t know if the story will pick up where Crysis 3 ended, or if Crytek is going to introduce a new protagonist and a new story. Though, the trailer released alongside the announcement seems to be a hint. In this trailer, we can clearly see the Crysis nanosuit. I might be going crazy, but is that also the Alpa Ceph, the final boss of Crysis 3, also being shown? Is it rebuilding itself? What about Nomad? He was still alive in Crysis 3, will he be part of this new story? There are so many ways this can go, I’m looking forward to this.

It’s way too early to know which platforms Crysis 4 is being developed on, but it’s safe to assume those will ultimately be the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For now, we’ll be following the Crysis 4 development. That and praying that current and future hardware will be enough to power the game.
