Sony provides a tease of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part One’

By Keith MitchellDecember 4, 2021

While the world waits for the next big-screen Spider-Man outing, Sony took this chance to premiere a trailer for yet another big-ticket, ‘Spider-Man flick; Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part One’.

In this short trailer, Miles Morales meets up with Gwen Stacy, similar to the end of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ Only this time, Gwen drops in on Miles’s bedroom, complete with all of his geek stuff laying around. To which, Miles does his best to try and hide some of them — Except Gwen manages to snag his artbook before he could. After a brief embarrassing but touching moment, Gwen tries to get Miles out of this room, to which he explains he’s grounded. After a short dialog, Miles dons his suit and that’s when things get crazy.

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE (PART ONE) Miles Morales

What happens next is akin to someone going on an acid trip as Miles is transported across multiple universes. It’s all very nicely animated. During this trip, out of nowhere comes this figure that resembles Spider-Man 2099. Known as Miguel O’Hara, the Spider-Man who’s from the future and was briefly shown during the credits of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He’s a good guy, except in this trailer, we see him tussling with Miles for some yet unknown reason. See, Spider-Man 2099, despite what is shown in the trailer, is a good guy.

Spider-Man 2099 uses his “Gizmo” which was also seen in the last movie, to pull Miles and himself into another timeline during this tussle. While we don’t know which timeline or where for that matter, it does look like both of the heroes were taken to a futuristic universe– sort of like where Spider-Man 2099 originated.

*Edit* Ok, after doing some research, I was correct. Spider-Man 2099 does in fact take Miles to his universe. If you look at the trailer, right before Spider-Man 2099 and Miles make the jump to this new universe, the numbers “928” appear. This is Marvel’s Earth-928, the world of Marvel 2099. Another possible outcome for Earth 616, which is the main Marvel’s comic universe. So, that’s exciting to see that that world is going to be touched on.

Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse - Earth-928

To me, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was one of the better Spider-Man movies ever created. The animation was amazing, the story was gripping, and it was pretty much a dream come true for fans of the Spider-Man universe. After watching this short trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, I can’t wait to see the film when it gets released next October 2022. Still, I have some questions. Mainly about the bit where Spider-Man 2099 snatches Miles up. I suppose we’ll find out more at a later date, or until the movie gets released.

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE (PART ONE) Spider-Man 2099

If you’re never heard of Spider-Man 2099, you got plenty of time to find out who he is. There’s several Marvel Comic runs, the Disney XD Ultimate Spider-Man that he appeared in as well. You got some catching up to do.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is coming exclusively to movie theaters on October 7, 2022.
