MultiVersus is the latest platform fighter from WB Games

WB Games Mulitversus

It was rumored that WB Games was working on a fighting game for some time now, then some footage and images were leaked. We even have the DMCA takedown notices to prove it. Now, the company is ready to reveal the game and has released a trailer that showcases that game, MultiVersus.

MultiVersus, another take on the popular Nintendo “Fighting” game series, Super Smash Bros., incorporated a number of Warner Brother properties and places them into a platform fighter. Here, you’ll see a number of familiar faces, from Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Steven Universe, Jake, and Finn (Adventure Time), Shaggy, Tom and Jerry, and more. Now players and geeks will be able to create or recreate some of your favorite battles — I’m totally pitting Supes against Batman. We all know how that’s going to play out, right?

Multiverse roster

However, unlike other similar games, MultiVersus will be centered around bringing the player-base together. This will be done by integrating servers, leaderboards, clans, and cross-platform play, and cross-progression. New characters will continue to be introduced into the game as well. It’s also free-to-play. As for microtransactions, as we know that’s the big question, nothing has been mentioned as of yet.

Now, you’re likely asking, “why do we need another platform fighter” and you’d be right. With many of them already out there in the gaming space, many have faded away, while newer ones such as Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl have only recently been released. Don’t think of this as another competitor to Super Smash Bros, as the landscape is vast, and we could use another quality platform fighter. Fingers crossed that Multiversus can fill that void.

Time will tell if Multiversus has what it takes to make gamers take notice, but for now, I’ll reserve judgment until I can get my hands on the game. Speaking of getting my hands on the game, don’t forget to sign up for the playtest. Head over to Multiverus.com and sign up, and cross your fingers that you get selected.

MultiVersus will be coming in 2022 to the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Sadly, it looks like this won’t be available on the Nintendo Switch, which strikes me as odd. Hopefully, that changes in the future.
