Guardians of the Galaxy for PC requires less hard drive space than previously thought

The game will require 80GB instead of the previously mentioned 150GB.

With the upcoming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy heading to consoles and PCs, everyone is scrambling to make sure they have enough space available. Especially those on the PC, as I noticed in several articles that the game was going to be massive; 150GB of space would be required. However, this doesn’t appear to be the case according to the official Twitter account for Guardians of the Galaxy has recently debunked that.

Hey everyone! We wanted to give you an update on the final size of the PC version of the game, which will not be 150 GB. The team is in the last stages of optimizing the final game and we can confirm the file size will be approximately 80 GB at launch.

Instead of 150GB of precious hard drive, you’ll only need 80GB instead. With that, a sigh of relief was heard across the galaxy, especially with those running SSDs that aren’t that big to begin with. When you think about it, SSD’s are still damned expensive, with most gamers only able to afford the 500GB variants. If the game was 150GB, that’s a hefty chunk of space that would be gobbled up by the game. Good to see that 80GB is the correct number — which is still a lot of space. But at least we’re not talking Call of Duty numbers.

Developed by Eidos and published by Square Enix, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a single-player game where players take control of Peter “Starlord” Quill as he commands his fellow guardians into battle. All the familiar faces will be involved, including Rocket, Gamora, Drax, and Groot, and possibly a few others once the game is released. Players will have the ability to make decisions that will determine the story’s outcome and possible consequences.

This is an entirely new game that takes influences from the Marvel comic books and a few from the MCU movies. The plot of Guardians of the Galaxy takes place several years after a massive interstellar war that left its mark on the universe, which is still dealing with its devastating consequences. Among those interested in exploiting the situation are the Guardians of the Galaxy, led by Peter Quill / Star-Lord and comprising Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Drax the Destroyer, who all hope to make quick money during their adventurous wanderings around the galaxy. However, in one of their scams, embroiled in a gamble between two team members, Star-Lord and his team inadvertently cause a small accident, which quickly sets in motion a series of catastrophic events that threaten the peace of the fragile universe unless they take responsibility for their actions and eradicate the threat.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (the game) releases this October 26th and will be playable on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, GeForce Now, and PC.
