CD PROJEKT RED Timeline Update for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3

By Scott AdamsOctober 20, 2021
Cyberpunk 2077, Nintendo Switch 2

After some time of radio silence, CD Projekt Red has given a timeline for estimated releases for the next-generation versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Throughout the history of this studio, it has hit two very different types of publicity. When The Witcher 3’s DLC “Blood and Wine” came out, CD Projekt Red was seen as a studio that could do no wrong in the community. Later after the controversial release of Cyberpunk 2077, it was seen as a studio that caved in too easily to its higher-ups.

This update comes from a post CD Projekt RED’s official Twitter account.

Twitter update for CD Projekt Red

For those who want to read the update through text it reads:

“Dear all,

We have an important update regarding next generation updates of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for consoles and PC. Based on recommendations supplied by teams supervising the development of both games, we decided to postpone their releases until 2022. Our current target for Cyberpunk 2077 is the first quarter of 2022, and the second quarter of 2022 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Apologies for the extended wait, but we want to make it right.”

Either way, the update we got today was news for those waiting on the next generation releases of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. It is a longer wait than what they have previously stated, but it appears it is because CD Projekt Red wants to make the games “right” rather than just release them.

This is good news to those who feared that it could be a Cyberpunk 2077 issue where the game wasn’t as stable on consoles as it was on PC. The bad news to those who were hoping to get next-generation versions of these games sooner are out of luck. Most importantly, however, is it is communication from CD Projekt Red that they are still working on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as well as their stability on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
