Forza Horizon 5 won’t support cross-save between Xbox and Steam versions

By Keith MitchellSeptember 17, 2021
Forza Horizon 5 - Cars in blur

We’re just a few months away from the release of Forza Horizon 5, and as such more information about the game is being released. While we already talked about the lack of a Forza Horizon 5 demo, we’re now finding out about the cross-save ability.

While Forza Horizon 5 will support cross-save on the Xbox platforms and the Windows Store version, they won’t be compatible with the Steam version of the game. Meaning that if you play the game mainly on the Steam version and then decide to play on the Xbox version, your progression won’t transfer over. Yep, that’s definitely bad news for those who were looking to pick up the Steam version or vice versa.

This is likely due to the Xbox and Windows store using Xbox’s cloud service to store saves. Which the Steam version won’t have access to. This is exactly what happened with the Steam version of Forza Horizon 4. This is what prompted me to pick up Forza Horizon 4 on Windows, despite the constant issues with the Windows Store. This could cause the Steam version of Forza Horizon to undersell, but we won’t know until the game launches this November 2021.

Forza Horizon 5 will be the largest game of the series thus far, will take place in Mexico, and with 11 unique biomes that include Canyon, Tropical Coast, Rocky Coast, Farmland, Arid Hills, Jungle, Sand Desert, Living Desert, Volcano, Swamp, and the Central-Mexican City Guanajuato.

If you’re a fan of arcade racing games with a touch of open-world racing, Forza Horizon 5 should be on your buying list. I know it’s definitely on mine. Forza Horizon 5 will be released on November 9th, 2021, for the Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Windows Store).

You’ll have to decide what version works for you – the Xbox and Windows versions for cross-save support or the Steam version for a better user experience. Let us know what versions you ultimately decide in the comments.
