Deathloop to be released on Steam instead of the Bethesda Launcher

By Keith MitchellSeptember 4, 2021
Deathloop releasing on Steam

If you’ve been wondering what PC game store and launcher Deathloop would be released on, you’re in luck, as we now know. According to Green Man Gaming, the popular online gaming store, we can confirm that Deathloop for the PC will be released on Steam and not Bethesda’s own store and launcher. It’s as if I called it a few months ago.

If you head to Green Man Gaming, the Bethesda Launcher isn’t listed at all as a place to purchase the game. It’s all on Steam and that’s ok with me. I don’t mind purchasing Deathloop on Steam, especially since it means one less launcher for me to deal with. I’m sure my fellow PC gamers are happy about the update. Thanks to Green Man Gaming for the news.

We’re happy to inform you that from now on we will be selling Steam keys for Deathloop – also for existing orders! The time-bending assassination game from Arkane Studios is releasing in 10 days, don't skip it: https://t.co/XEIVsTP3yY pic.twitter.com/zMad9R8zgZ

If you’re familiar with PC gaming and Bethesda’s times, all of their games were released on the Bethesda Store and Bethesda Launcher for the past few years. Eventually, some would make their way to Steam, as DOOM Eternal did. Yet, for the most part, they all were home on Bethesda’s server. With word that Deathloop is coming to Steam, you have to wonder if this means that the title or any other upcoming titles will be at home on the Bethesda launcher. As I asked a few months back, now that Microsoft/Xbox owns Zenimax and Bethesda, what would happen to the Bethesda store and the Bethesda launcher.

If this recent change of plans means anything, we might not see another game on the Bethesda launcher ever again. It’s just a matter of time before everything gets released directly via Microsoft store or Xbox app in Windows, alongside being released on Steam.

In Deathloop, you’ll play as Colt, an assassin who has learned that he keeps reliving the same day, repeatedly when killed. This affords him a certain advantage and makes for a unique style of gameplay. All Colt wants to do is break the cycle and escape this living hell. To do that, he’ll have to kill eight targets before they kill him. But he’s not alone as not only does he have to kill those targets, but also another assassin who wants to take Colt off the board.

Deathloop releases on September 14th, 2021, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam.  As for the Xbox platforms, PlayStation has a one-year exclusivity period, so don’t expect to see Deathloop on Xbox for a while.

What do you think about the news of Deathloop releasing on Steam? Did you expect it? Or is this pleasant news to you? Let us know in the comments.
