Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy IX will be receiving an animated series!
Square Enix is partnering with Cyber Group Studios to produce the animated series. The curious note here is that it says “animated series” and not “anime.” It has yet to be known if this will be done in Japanese anime style or in another format. Given the fact that Cyber Group Studios is based in France, it’s pretty much a coin toss at this point.
What we do know is that the animated series is being created for worldwide distribution and there will be merchandise involved. Older fans of the game; however, must take note that the show is being aimed at 8-13 year olds in order to introduce them to the Final Fantasy IX game; however, it is noted that the show will cater to older fans as well.
Right now, the series is expected to wrap up production at the end of 2021 into early 2022 with a 2022 release.
