Final Fantasy 7 Remake listing found on the Epic Games Store’s database

By Keith MitchellJune 18, 2021
Final Fantasy VII Remake

Remember when Final Fantasy VII Remake was first announced, and there was a hint that it might also head to the PC? Well, it looks like it might be happening after all. The Epic Games data tracker, EpicData, has recently pointed out that a new entry was added to the Epic Games Store. And it’s pointing to Final Fantasy VII Remake on PC.

Heading over to this link, you can expand the details to see for yourself. Clicking on “customAttributes” -> “CloudSaveFolder”, reveals the folder called “{UserDir}/My Games/FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE/EOS/{EpicID}/”. Those familiar with how games on installed on the PC will recognize this as a save data path.

There are also a few other things that can be found, including the date of November 30th, 2020. I’m not sure what this signifies, but it could be the date that Final Fantasy VII Remake was originally supposed to be added to the Epic Games Store. Or it could mean something completely different.

This wouldn’t be the first time it was hinted that Final Fantasy VII Remake could be heading to the PC. Back in April 2020, Square Enix showed off some PC gameplay footage of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This pretty much confirmed the DLC, and the base game was on its way. All that was needed was an official release date.

Remember this screencap that set the internet on fire?

Either way, this does point that Square Enix and Epic Games have been looking to bring the game to the PC. Now, I know that some aren’t fans of the Epic Game Store and how they seem to get timed-exclusive games for what seems like forever. Yet on the flip side, if this means this the only way Final Fantasy VII Remake makes it to the PC, then I’m all for it.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently available on the PS4 and PS5, with a new DLC called “Intergrade” exclusive to the PlayStation 5. For now, anyway.
