Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Has Best-Selling 1st Week Home Release in Reiwa Era

By Josh PiedraJune 24, 2021

Just when you thought that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was done breaking records, we are reminded almost monthly that it has no plans on stopping.

Adding to the already mountainous pile of accolades is a new one… the move has become the biggest selling home video release since the Reiwa Era started in 2019.

The movie sold 457,000 standard edition DVDs, 165,000 Limited Edition DVDs, 351,000 standard edition Blu-rays, and 338,000 Limited Edition Blu-rays. For those who don’t want to bust out a calculator or exercise the wrinkles in your brain, that’s a total of 1,311,000 copies sold in just one week.

And this is just Japan.

The standard and limited editions knocked the reigning champion, Frozen 2, off its pedestal, sending it down to third place. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has already out-grossed Frozen 2 in home video sales in its first week of release as well. Total sales for Demon Slayer’s first week is 7.6 billion yen ($67.6 million) while Frozen 2’s first week was 6.3 billion yen ($62.2 million).

What record is it going to break next? Stay tuned.
