‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Shows Off Old Faves, New Faces

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMay 10, 2021

What was a sequel to 2018’s Venom going to be like? You could have placed any number of bets but top among them would have been “weird as Hell.” And as far as the first trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, that bet would have been correct, in the best way.

The trailer starts off with Eddie Brock, still infected, getting through his morning with Venom, making breakfast and heading to the corner store. But there’s something brewing in Ravencroft as an intimate who Eddie interviewed in a post-credit scene at the end of the first movie. We get that signature blend of high-intensity action and bizarre humor, which is what fans were looking for in the sequel. et.

The biggest reveal in the trailer is Cletus Kasady, a.k.a Carnage, both in his human form and full monster, played by Woody Harrelson. There were definitely some worries about him sporting that awful wig from the post-credits scene from Venom, but it appears to be gone. We also see a quick peek at Naomie Harris, who plays Shriek, a villain who can manipulate sound, and a love interest for Carnage. Also in the cast is Michelle Williams, returning as Anne, along with Reid Scott and Stephen Graham. And of course, Peggy Lu is back as the lovable, potentially-edible Mrs. Chen. No sign of everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spider-Man, but given one of the villains squishes a spider, maybe there’s some more surprises we haven’t seen yet.

The trailer very explicitly states the film will only be shown in theaters, so don’t look for this one to show up on any streaming services, pandemic be damned.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage premieres in theaters on September 24, 2021.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
