Returnal Patch 1.3.3 Pulled Due Game Save Corruption

By Keith MitchellMay 5, 2021

Earlier today, Housemarque released an update for Returnal, bringing the game to version 1.3.3. However, shortly after the release, I noticed several people over at the Returnal subreddit mentioning that their game saves being corrupted.

After the update, a pop-up referencing the error code “CE-100028-1” will be shown upon starting the game.

Corrupted Game Save Returnal

If this happens to you, your game save has been corrupted and, unfortunately, means your save is no longer valid. And if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber and your save was auto-updated into the cloud saves, that also is corrupted. If this happens to you, you’ll have to re-download the entire game. For now, Housemarque has pulled the 1.3.3 update.

Housemarque is cautioning everyone to wait for the new update that will be released shortly and  should sort all the problems out. However, if you already started the game, there’s a good chance your game save is toast.

Patch 1.3.3 has been pulled and we are reverting back to 1.3.1 until it's fixed.

We are fixing the issue now and a new patch will be published in a few hours

All users affected by the 1.3.3 need to re-download the game.

Our sincerest apologies.

Original story below:

The second update for Returnal and the biggest one so far has been released. Returnal developer, Housemarque has released patch 1.3.3, which addresses several issues with the game. Including my complaint of not being properly healed when using the bed in Helios. I told you all that was busted, and you doubted me!

The Patch Notes are here and the Patch 1.3.3 drops in an hour.#Returnal #PS5https://t.co/WKPecULAZs

Check out the full patch notes below:

  • Fixed an issue where certain Trophies might not unlock under specific gameplay conditions. Note: missing Trophies will need to be replayed to unlock.
  • Multiple stability fixes addressing rare crashes/hangs.
  • Fixed issue with pre-order suits occasionally blocking item collection and door opening.
  • Fixed incorrect healing behaviour when resting in Helios.
  • Configuration changes to increase the number of scout corpses available in all biomes.
  • Fixed issues with certain custom controller mappings.
  • Numerous minor fixes and improvements.

It’s nice to see several outstanding issues addressed, including the random crashing. I know that crashing has been a sore spot for just about everyone playing the game – myself included. However, having to earn trophies that you already unlocked is a bummer. Nonetheless, it’s better than not being to unlock the trophies at all.

Returnal is exclusive to the PlayStation 5, and it’s a blast – if you enjoy roguelikes or games with fun gameplay mechanics.
