New Call of Duty coming later this year, Sledgehammer Games leading development

By Poch SaldanaMay 5, 2021

According to a report by Modern Warzone, a new Call of Duty is still releasing this year with a focus on fully utilizing next-gen features. It was also reported that the latest entry in one of the most popular franchises in gaming will be headed by Sledgehammer Games who last lead the development in Call of Duty: WWII. Sledgehammer Games themselves later corroborated this themselves with a “phenom”-enal tweet.

We’re so excited to be leading the charge on @CallofDuty this year and can’t wait to share more. https://t.co/pMuaFybT1r

It has been reported that the tentative title is Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard with a name change being probable further on during development and that the release window is fall of this year. Other than that, little else is known about the new title but may get some new details in this year’s all-digital E3 next month.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the last entry in the franchise with development lead by Treyarch, was received well by both fans and critics alike with the campaign being especially lauded. However, the game came and went while Warzone, the main franchise’s Battle royale cousin, has amassed over 100 million players since its launch just over a year ago. The announcement of a new Call of Duty may just seem like a yearly routine but for fans of the main franchise, they may find some solace that they’ll still be getting their hands on a classic Call of Duty experience later this year and that Warzone hasn’t completely taken over the series.

Big fan of games, writing, and writing about games! Two things Poch will always stand by--the Vita was ahead of its time and the world is a better place with a new Rhythm Heaven on the horizon.
