CW’s ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Pilot Script Leaks, and It’s Wild

When the CW announced they would be creating a live-action reimaging of The Powerpuff Girls, there was some nervous chattering about them Riverdale-ing the dialogue and premise. Well, it looks like those fears were justified as the script for the pilot episode leaked. As the Internet lost its collective mind over the script, which some hoped was fake, the CW announced it would be reworking the pilot and trying again.

The script was leaked on Twitter on May 24, and while there were questions to its authenticity, it seemed to be supported by the fact that tweets sharing the images of the script were removed due to copyright infringement. And while we can’t show images of the script (though you can find them floating around), some notable lines and moments include:

  • “Life, is one big hate boner”
  • one character telling another that Blossom needs to “moveon.org”
  • Buttercup threatening to leak Blossom’s nudes
  • Some really cringe dialogue from Mojo Jojo about reverse discrimination
  • Bubbles talking about Professor Plutoniums dates as “beaker bunnies and science hoes”
  • Blossom interrupting Buttercup during a long bout of intercourse.

There was also some backlash when images of the costumes first came out, which fans decried as looking cheap and coming from Party City:

During a press briefing about retooling the pilot, CW’s Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz explained why they are trying again with the same cast and crew:

“The reason we do pilots is, sometimes things miss. We believe in the cast and in [writers Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier] and [executive producer Greg Berlanti] and studio Warner Bros. In this case, the pilot didn’t work. Because we see enough elements in there, we wanted to give it another shot. It may have felt a little too campy and not rooted in reality. You learn things when you test things out. We felt, ‘Let’s take a step back and go back to the drawing board.’ This is a powerful property, it engaged a lot of interest, and we want to get it right.”

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
