Resident Evil 4: VR Announced For Oculus Quest 2

Capcom and Oculus are bringing Resident Evil 4 to the Oculus Quest 2. This there a platform that this game hasn’t been ported to yet?

According to the announcement, there will be subtle changes to the game. Unlike the original version of Resident Evil 4, the Oculus Quest 2 version will feature Leon Kennedy in a first-person view. Only Leon’s hands will be shown as he performs various actions throughout the game. Interestingly enough, this perspective is what a large number of Resident Evil fans had originally wanted to see the game played as. This also effectively turns the game into a first-person shooter.O

The port is being handled by Capcom, Facebook Oculus, and Armature Studio. One downside to this is that not only is this bypassing the Rift S, but it doesn’t appear to be heading to Steam (PCVR) either.

Check out some gameplay on the Oculus Quest 2 port below. It’s looking pretty damned good, actually.

More details on the port will be announced during the Oculus Gaming Showcase, which takes place on April 21st, 2021.

Unfortunately for Oculus Rift S owners, this is yet another title that will skip VR headset. As we’ve seen over the past few months, Facebook is doubling down on the Quest 2, while the Rift S was already discontinued as of the end of 2020. I fully expect this trend to continue with more games bypassing the once premier Oculus VR headset. If you were on the fence when it comes to picking up an Oculus Quest 2, it’s looking more and more that the decision is being made for you.

The Oculus Quest 2 is currently available in a 64GB version for $299 and the 256GB for $399. I’m already looking at snagging the 256GB version; now that it’s looking like if I want to play games in VR, the Quest 2 is the place to do it.
