The Story

Inner turmoil.

This was the theme of I Hear the Sunspot Limit Vol. 2. Here, the turmoil is all within Kohei’s mind and it all stemmed from a demo party that Ryu was holding at his indie dev company that he invited Kohei to. When Taichi found out about it, Kohei brought him along; however, some people took notice of Taichi’s rather loud behavior and began to make fun of him behind his back. Kohei noticed it and ended up grabbing Taichi and storming out of there, making things a bit awkward. Ryu also noticed what was going on and slugged one of the offenders, knocking him down rather harshly which made it awkward for him to return to work.

Ever since that moment, Kohei began to get angry at Taichi whenever the two of them were around each other. Kohei, himself, couldn’t figure out what was bothering him but he did know one thing…. That he had to make a painful decision which is what ended our second volume.

While this was the main focus of the story, there were many subtle side stories throughout the volume but a lot of it could be chalked up to character development which served as the main backbone for this volume!

Characters

The biggest development here was with Ryu. We got a pretty short view of him in the first volume; however, his backstory was way more fleshed out this time around. Turns out that Ryu is Chiba’s little brother… or should I say… half-brother. Same mother… two different fathers. Even still, Chiba cared for him and it was one of the reasons why he joined Sig-n… although Chiba says that the real reason for joining them was simpler than Ryu.

We also learned that Ryu loved making games and that his indie dev company was actually his idea. It’s just him and two other close friends working on games. They don’t do all of the work themselves as they do outsource some of it but they barely manage to get by and use their passion as their reason for pressing forward. To think that Ryu balances this and futsal all while being completely deaf is pretty amazing. Also, we learned that his hair color is a dyed bright orange! We know this because Taichi becomes obsessed with it and asks him a billion questions about it.

Taichi did get a little bit of development here. When Kohei begins to give him the cold shoulder, he actually does a bit of soul searching to see why Kohei was acting like that. He tries to put things in perspective but his innocent and naïve way of looking at life just complicates things as nothing really makes sense to him. I think that Taichi is too innocent for his own good!

Final Thoughts

I Hear the Sunspot: Limit continues to pour on the drama. With the way things ended in this volume, it’s pretty apparent that volume three will wrap up the story. The first two volumes were five chapters each, leaving nine chapters for the finale! It’s going to be a thicc boi for sure but I can’t wait to see the conclusion to this amazing story.

While there were a lot of side plots and substories in this volume, everything is leading up to their final moments. The relationship between Kohei and Taichi hangs in the balance, Kohei’s mother possibly being exploited because of her son’s hearing impairment, Maya’s feelings about the two of them, Taichi’s position at Sig-n… all of it is on the line with one decision between two people! When you think about how intertwined everyone’s stories are, it’s hard to think that with one decision, everything could change or remain the same.

While I don’t doubt that some things may end up the same, a lot of things could end up differently which is why this situation’s conclusion is all the more intriguing! Can’t wait for the final installment to see how it all comes together!
