Anime First Reaction – Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san

By Josh PiedraApril 10, 2021

I’ve seen some spineless main characters in my day but JEEBUS KORISTU, son…

I simply bought into the curiosity surrounding this show. I, honestly, wasn’t expecting much from it so after taking a peek at the first episode, aside from my opening statement, what kind of impressions did Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san leave on me?

Let’s Go!

First Episode Synopsis

Naoto is a spineless nerd who draws manga. Nagatoro is a girl who decided to tease him one day while he was just quietly sitting in the library minding his own business. Apparently, Naoto has a bit of an anxiety problem when he’s around other people and after dropping his bookbag when reaching for an eraser, he alerted his presence to Nagatoro and her friends.

Her friends left but Nagatoro stayed behind and teased him. That night, he couldn’t get her voice out of his head and couldn’t sleep. He went to art class the next day but Nagatoro found him and asked him to draw her for a reward. After he caves in and does it, she teases him again.

I think you can see the pattern here.

She teased him again while walking home from school and ended up pushing him into some water. She asked the title of the first episode, “Senpai, don’t you ever get angry?” which brings us to a memory of Naoto just getting bullied as a kid. Apparently, he just closes off his mind and deals with it until his harassers leave him alone. Nagatoro; however, isn’t doing such a thing so… instead of doing what any normal person would and telling her to go find the nearest cactus dildo and go to town with it on herself, he decides to try and learn her name…

Yeah… let’s just invite even more bullying… unless.. Could Naoto be an M?

Hmm…

Worth Watching?

MAYBE – I already hate Nagatoro and Naoto. Here you have a REALLY annoying bitch that makes you want to hire the nearest female to slap the ever-living shit out of her and you also have the most spineless main character I have ever seen. He’s so spineless that he would much rather try and learn to live with Nagatoro’s teasing than doing anything about it.

Like… that’s borderline Stockholm Syndrome right there. He may not be captive in a physical sense but he is being held captive mentally and now he’s showing signs of adoration for the person who is mentally assaulting him…

Oof.

This is the kind of show that could get stale REALLY fast. If it’s just episode after episode of teasing with no direction whatsoever, I’m going to drop this like a rock off a cliff. I have a fear that that’s how it’s going to end up but I will be fair and give this the three-episode rule because I find this show too aggravating to watch.
