Outriders Demo Downloaded Over 2 Million Times, Will Receive A Patch

Outriders, the upcoming looter shooter from People Can Fly has been downloaded over 2 million times. And that’s saying something about a game that many people have claimed that looks and plays like a generic shooter. That’s fantastic news for the developer, and might I add that I’ve been loving the demo have over 40 hours in it so far.

The Outriders demo will also receive a patch that will address a number of issues, and patch up some an “exploit”. Similar to early on in Destiny’s life,  the term “Loot Cave” has been used, meaning that players have found a way to farm weapons that they normally wouldn’t have access to. This “exploit” was centered around certain methods, but none quicker than loading into a specific mission, looting three chests, and then reloading that mission. This will be patched so that those chests will no longer drop legendary items. If you haven’t done it yet or haven’t found a legendary, you still have time.

Read up on all the upcoming changes via the patch here. As for an ETA, People Can Fly is hopeful that we’ll see this patch sometime next week, March 8-12, 2021.

I’ll be honest and say that I’ve done this multiple times and managed to snag a few golden items. It doesn’t mean that legendary items won’t still drop, as they will, just not from those chests. Instead, People Can Fly will make it that they’ll drop from repeating running side quests. You’ll have to finish those missions once this patch drops.

This patch will also add requested features such as a way to toggle motion blur, increased frame rate performance, loading times, and crashes. All of which have been more noticeable on the PC. And while the console versions have been a bit more stable, the previous generation of consoles are having their fair share of issues. They’ll also be revisiting the camera shake (thank goodness) during cutscenes. That was driving me (and others) crazy. Matchmaking and the cover system will also e looked into, but may not be fixed during the demo period.

There will be some downtime for the Outriders demo starting at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET, which will see several changes outside of the aforementioned patch, with the exception of the loot drop/chests. The latter will see a change once the servers come back online.  The Captains will see a few nerfs, the first-named boss, Gauss, will see an increased health pool so that more geared characters will see have a challenge when facing him.

I got to say that I love that People Can Fly is paying attention to the feedback and are actively making changes. Changes to a demo I might add. Though, I am a bit concerned that this may lead to the game being delayed. And yet, if it does end up being delayed to make sure the game can be the best it can be then I’m all for that. As for the demo, I’ve logged in love 40 hours so far, and I don’t have any plans to stop – I still have to check out the Trickster and Pyromancer class, after all.

Outriders will launch on April 1st, 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Stadia.
