CW Casts its Leads for ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Live-Action Pilot

Fighting crime, trying to save the world, here they come from the CW, the new Powerpuff Girls!

That’s right, the CW is working on a pilot for a live-action version of the iconic cartoon, The Powerpuff Girls. They’ve announced the three actress who will be playing Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup: Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault.

The show comes from Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, and will follow the now older sisters having grown apart and grown resentful of spending their childhoods fighting crime. They will have to come together one more time to save the world — but will they be able to work as a team again?

Bennet is best known for her work on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Skye, a.k.a Quake. Cameron was also on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but she is best known for her role as Mal in Disney Channel’s Descendants series of films as well as both leads in the Disney Channel show Liv and Maddie. Perrault is a theater star, having just finished a run as the lead in Jagged Little Pill and was set to join Hamilton before the pandemic.

The biggest fear is that the CW is going to try and Riverdale this franchise by making it overly gritty and dramatic. We may never get to see this pilot, but it’s likely to be one hell of a ride, for better or worse.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
