Capcom Reveals Multiplayer Shooter Resident Evil RE:Verse

Why does Capcom keep trying to cram this stuff down our throats?

During today’s Resident Evil Village Showcase, Capcom also revealed another company’s attempt to introduce a multiplayer shooter based in the Resident Evil universe. This time the game is called RE:Verse, and it sounds exactly what it is; a game that drops characters from the RE universe and pits them against one another. Yep, it’s a PVP game, but you won’t have to pay for it as Resident Evil Re:Verse will be included with Resident Evil Village.

We got to see short snippets of the game during the showcase, which showed off an almost comic book art style for the game. So far, we can confirm that several Resident Evil mainstays such as Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon Kenndy, and Hunk are in the game. We also got to see a slightly pissed off Nemesis charging up a hallway right before the reveal ended. As the art for the trailer shows, we’ll likely see others being introduced over time, as Ada Wong and several others can also be seen.

Now that this has been revealed, I have one question. Why? Every attempt that Capcom has had for a multiplayer Resident Evil has been a train wreck; Resident Evil Outbreak, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, and finally Resident Evil: Resistance. I’m all for trying new things but c’mon Capcom. You’ve done this over and over, and nothing has stuck. Perhaps it’s just time to re-define the mercenaries mode and leave it at that. At least that worked and quite well, I might add.

Resident Evil RE:Verse will be released alongside Resident Evil Village on May 7th, 20201.
