Bethesda and MachineGames have announced a new Indiana Jones game.

Indiana Jones

In a move that shocked most of the gaming community, Bethesda has announced that it is working on an Indiana Game. MachineGames, a company known for working on the Wolfenstein series, will handle the development of the game. There’s no word on what genre this game will be in, but I’m hoping it’s going to be an action/adventure game.

A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, @MachineGames , and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with @LucasfilmGames . It’ll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news!

At long last, we’re going to be able to punch some Nazis in the face, as only Indiana Jones can. After all the Tomb Raider and Uncharted games, it will be a nice change of pace to play as the OG globe-hopping treasure hunter. One that isn’t a LEGO game and can be a bit more mature.

Of course, this announcement was also subject to several questions regarding if this game would be an Xbox exclusive or if this would be headed to other platforms, which is an interesting question. Especially since Microsoft now owns Bethesda’s entirety, and it looks that most games will be exclusive to that platform.

Well, except those that were announced before the acquisition; Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo. Some have argued that Disney, who owns the IP, wouldn’t want to see the game confined to just one platform, and something I agree with. Yet, at the same time, we have several exceptions to this. Both the Spider-Man games, developed by Insomniac Games and exclusive to the PlayStation and Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3, are exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

Yet, at the same time, I think some have forgotten that the Microsoft/Xbox X Bethesda deal has yet to be finalized. For something this huge, it takes months, and there hasn’t been an official announcement as to when this deal is going to close. Then there’s the lack of any PlayStation retweeting the game’s announcement, while Xbox has. It’s definitely reason enough to ask what exactly is going on.

Either way, I’m excited about the news.
