Nintendo Switch Wins NPD For Console Sales In November

The Nintendo Switch has been the dominant console on the market for the last several years. Climbing higher and higher in gaming sales and reaching over 70 million in console sales with more sales on the way. But, with the new consoles of the Xbox Series X and the PS5 coming out, people were wondering just how well the console would do in the month of their launch. The answer is…it would beat them.

The NPD data for the US has come out and it was revealed that between the Nintendo Switch and the Switch Lit the console sold 1.35 million units during the month. Almost double what it did in October, no doubt due to the Black Friday deals. And that number was enough to beat back the Microsoft and Sony consoles.

What’s more, Nintendo extended a record that they had been doing. The Nintendo Switch has now been the top console in the US for 2 straight years.

In a press release, Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, discussed the accomplishment.

“Nintendo Switch offers a unique proposition for shoppers this holiday season with the ability to play on the TV or portably in handheld mode,” said Chavez. “We continue to see unprecedented demand for Nintendo Switch, and we are pleased that people of all ages and gaming skill levels will be experiencing Nintendo Switch this holiday and beyond.”

So yeah, the Switch is doing just fine, and with 2021 on the way and many 1st and 3rd party games likely to be announced for it soon (including at The Game Awards that we’ll be covering!), things aren’t likely to slow down for the Switch.
