Xbox Series X|S enhancements announced for Sea of Thieves

By Poch SaldanaNovember 4, 2020

Announced on their official Twitter account, Sea of Thieves will be receiving a handful of next-generation upgrades. The title will run at a full 4k/60 FPS on Series X while the Series S will be settling for 1080p/60 FPS.

Excited about setting sail on Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S? These are the key optimisations for your next-gen Sea of Thieves experience, so get set to enjoy some silky-smooth skelly smashing:

The most notable tidbit comes from the fact that Rare has opted to run the game at 1080p on the Series S. Many expected the budget-friendly console to run most games at 1440p, largely due in part to Microsoft marketing, but in becoming blatantly obvious that may not be the case. The ever-popular Fortnite will also receive next-generation optimization with the Series S version similarly running at 1080p/60 while Capcom recently announced that the Series S won’t support ray-tracing for Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition.

It’ll be interesting to see how future titles will run on the tiny console when developers will have more time to familiarize themselves with the new machine. However, early signs aren’t a  cause of optimism for the humble Series S.

The free next-generation enhancements for the Sea of Thieves will coincide with the launch of the Series X|S on November 10.

Big fan of games, writing, and writing about games! Two things Poch will always stand by--the Vita was ahead of its time and the world is a better place with a new Rhythm Heaven on the horizon.
