Retro-style Action Platformer Steel Assault to be published by Tribute Games

By Keith MitchellNovember 4, 2020
Steel Assault Steam Announcement 1280x720

Steel Assault, an upcoming retro-style action-platformer currently in development by a new gaming studio, Zenovia, now has a publisher. Originally, Steel Assault was going to be a self-published game (AFAIK), will now be published by Tribute Games. A company that happens to know a thing or two about these sorts of games; Panzer Paladin, Mercenary Kings

In addition to handling the publishing of Steel Assault, Tribute Games is also helping with the development of the title.

Tribute and Zenovia are teaming up to bring you the highly anticipated Steel Assault. Developed over the last few years by Sri Kankanahalli of Zenovia, the game is currently being polished under our watchful eye for a Steam release set for 2021. No other platform release has been confirmed yet.
After close to 10 years of self-publishing and 6 games under our belt, we felt it was time to share the knowledge and expertise that we have built and fostered. We are now looking to partner up with developers with a similar taste in games, developers of games of all genre inspired by arcade or retro aesthetics. We want to help retro-inspired titles come to life for all old-school game and pixel art enthusiasts.
Of course, you can be sure to see more games from the devs at Tribute as we’ll keep working on the many project we have in store for you. As the studio is expanding, we’ll now be able to bring you games from smaller teams as well! So lots of cool stuff coming your way in 2021!

It’s great that Tribute Games is now involved, though I am a bit bummed that Steel Assault will now slip into 2021 after being slated for a 2020 release for quite some time.

For those who haven’t been keeping track, Steel Assault was announced in late 2020 as a Kickstarter project. The game looks to be a mash-up of 2D side-scrolling titles such as Contra and Gunstar Heroes. This game really screens Gunstar Heroes, at least to me, it does.

When released, Steel Assault will be PC-only, though a console port doesn’t appear to be ruled out either.

Play as Taro Takahashi, a resistance soldier on a revenge mission against the dictator who lords over the ashes.

  • Fast-paced 2D platforming
Dynamic, fluid side-scrolling combat with a stylish move set and tons of enemies & bosses to fight
  • Unique zipline action
A new twist on classic grappling-hook mechanics, opening up fun movement possibilities
  • 16-bit post-apoc style
A beautifully fleshed-out sci-fi world, rendered in detailed pixel art and backed by fiery FM-synthesized tunes

  • Classic gaming experience
Beautifully hand-crafted stage-based action & optimal screen resolution for CRT gaming
