Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis livestream taking place on Dec. 19th

It’s been a while since Sega and Microsoft released any new info on Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, the revamped and modern update for Phantasy Star Online 2. Well, that’s all going to change as Sega announced last night that a live stream is scheduled to take place on December 19th, 2020 @ 6:30 AM EDT. It’s going to be an early stream, so make sure you’re up ready to go.

Can’t wait to learn more about PSO2 New Genesis? You’re in luck because we’ll be sharing more details with you on December 19th! That’s right, Arks, we’ll be broadcasting more information about PSO2 New Genesis!  Following our Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online Broadcast, our official navigator Hiro Arai will be back to bring you the latest deets!

I’ve been looking forward to some new information, so this live stream is coming just in time. There’s currently no URL for the stream or what Sega plans on taking about. That info will be released later, and we’ll e sure to update this article once we know more.

What is Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis?

An upcoming entry in the PSO2 series, New Genesis will be a massive update to the game. According to Sega, this update will overhaul just about everything, from the graphics engine to the gameplay mechanics. It’s an update that fans of the series have been asking for, especially since PSO2 has been around for 8 years. It just didn’t make it to North America until recently.

New Genesis is being labeled as an open-world RPG, meaning there will also be ways to travel across the new worlds with the newly added Photon Dash and Photon Glide. There’s also going to be a new day and night system and weather effects. The story is going to change as well, as this entry takes place 1000 years after the events of PSO2. Being that this time leap is so large, anything (and it looks like it will) can happen.

Already playing the original game? That’s ok, as you’ll be able to bring over your characters to New Genesis, with some expectations. You won’t be able to transfer over character progression, mesta (money) experience, skills, photon arts, or techniques. Seeing it spelled out like it makes you wonder if bringing over your already existing characters is worth it.

Think of this as being similar to what Square Enix did for Final Fantasy XIV by redoing the entire game and reintroducing it as Final Fantasy XIV. I’m sure Sega has been watching Square Enix’s MMORPG’s success and wants to do the same.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will released in North America and Japan in 2021 for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows 10.
