Despite numerous delays, the title still sold well.
While we aren’t fans on reporting on leaks, this particular nugget of information is quite interesting and shows the gaming landscape change.
According to a leak suffered by Capcom, it would seem that the PC version of Monster Hunter World Iceborne has sold very well on the PC. So well that the PC version has outsold the console versions of the game in every region, except in Japan.
This is interesting and enlightening, as the PC versions of Monster Hunter World were released months after the console versions were released. Monster Hunter World for the PS4 and Xbox One was released in January 2018, followed by an August 2018 release for PC. The expansion, Monster Hunter Iceborne, was released for consoles on September 6, 2019, followed by the PC release on January 29th, 2020. Yet, despite these delays, the PC version has managed to sell exceptionally well.
Here are the leaked Monster Hunter World Iceborne sales figures for the PC and the PlayStation 4 from the major regions; North America, Japan, Asia, and Europe.

The Xbox One version was also mentioned but without the regions. According to the info, the base game sold 1.789 million copies and Iceborne at 448K. The figures don’t reveal if these were copies sold or played via Xbox Game Pass.
When it comes to Japan, they sure do love Monster Hunter, and they have for decades. But thankfully, these figures also confirm to Capcom that North America has come to enjoy the series a well. Especially since there was a time where Capcom was hesitant about bringing Monster Hunter to North America.
It just goes to show that the PC, once an afterthought when it came to gaming in many publishers and developers’ eyes, has been rapidly become the choice for gamers. Not just with Capcom, as other developers, including Japanese developers, have been realized the potential of the platform and have started releasing titles that they may not have considered for the PC in the past.
Back to Capcom, the company already has several titles heading to the PC, with the next one being Resident Evil: Village, officially. This doesn’t include the titles named in the Capcom Ransomware attack, which leaked several other titles such as Resident Evil 4 Remake, Final Fight, Power Stone, Street Fighter 6, and a new Monster Hunter title. If only Capcom would wise up and release Devil May Cry V: Special Edition on the PC.
