Funimation and Sony to Rock Out with FLOW Anime Concert

By Josh PiedraNovember 12, 2020

They’ve performed themes for some of the most iconic and prolific anime in history, from Naruto Shippuden and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods to Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Eureka Seven. And now, these J-rock all-stars are coming to Funimation to play all of their fan-favorites.

Funimation, the leading global anime content provider, and Sony Music Labels are making music together and bringing the FLOW CHOKAIGI 2020 – ANIME SHIBARI RETURNS – to stream exclusively on Funimation in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom; Wakanim in France, Russia, Denmark and Scandinavia; and AnimeLab in Australia and New Zealand. The special will air exclusively beginning Friday, November 13, and the two-hour concert will also stream on Funimation in Mexico and Brazil when our service launches later this year.  This is the first time Funimation has distributed a Japanese artist’s full concert on its streaming service.

And there’s more: Funimation is hosting a Premiere Watch Party on November 13 at 10pm est / 7 pm pst… and members of the band will be joining live to take questions and jam with fans.

“Music is part of the DNA of anime, and FLOW has been part of the anime experience for years so this is such a special tribute for Funimation fans,” said Asa Suehira, Funimation’s Chief Content Officer.

“FLOW’s Chokaigi 2020 -Anime Shibari returns- was a concert that we definitely wanted to make happen in order to show our appreciation to our fans around the world who came to love FLOW’s music through anime,” commented the band.  “Although the COVID-19 pandemic has been spreading, we were able to have the concert right before the situation worsened. And, most amazing of all, the staff and voice cast from the various anime we performed songs for all came together to collaborate with us, despite being from different series. It was a miraculous night where we were able to hold a concert you can’t experience elsewhere. We’re really happy that fans around the world can watch this concert through Funimation. We cannot go see you just yet, but we will definitely have concerts where you are again. Please look forward to that day and enjoy “Anime Shibari returns” for now! All the songs from the beginning to the end are the highlights. Please get pumped up!”

FLOW is a five-piece rock band, consisting of KOHSHI (Vocals), KEIGO (Vocals), TAKE (Guitar), GOT’S (Bass), and IWASAKI (Drums). KOHSHI (Vocals) and his brother TAKE (Guitar) have been creating songs together since 1993. They formed FLOW in 1998. KEIGO (Vocals) and GOT’S (BASS) then joined the band in 1999 and IWASAKI (Drums) in 2000. In 2003, they had their major debut with the single “Blaster” and ever since, they’ve unleashed their brand of music with their melodic and powerful double vocals throughout the world. Their music was an excellent fit for anime so they went on to do many anime songs such as “GO!!!” as an opening song for the anime Naruto; “Colors,” an opening song for Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, an opening song for Tales of Zesteria the X, “Kaze no Uta,” and the opening song for Shadowverse, “Shinsekai.” They started performing overseas and have now in 19 countries all over the world, including countries in Asia, North America, South America, and Europe, proving that their powerful live performances can cross borders. Since September of 2019, the opening song for Naruto Shippuden, “Sign,” has exceeded 40 million plays on the subscription service Spotify and all of their songs exceed a total of 100 million plays.
