Rockstar acquires Crackdown 2 developers Ruffian Games

By Poch SaldanaOctober 13, 2020

Most notable for the divisive Crackdown 2, Ruffian Games has been purchased by powerhouse publishers Rockstar Games and has been renamed to Rockstar Dundee.

This acquisition is not completely out of left field as the two studios have been working together since October of last year on ambiguous ‘upcoming titles’. The British studio has mostly done work as a supplemental developer since releasing Crackdown 2 helping the likes of 343 Industries with Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Sumo Digital with Crackdown 3 so we can expect them to do the same under their new monicker.

The team at @RuffianGames is #HIRING. They’re looking for #engineers to work on unspecified titles for @RockstarGames.

With the announcement that Grand Theft Auto V would be coming to next-gen consoles, it’s not too farfetched to think that Rockstar Dundee had some hand in helping port over the nearly 10-year-old titles considering the studio’s experience but that’s pure speculation.

Big fan of games, writing, and writing about games! Two things Poch will always stand by--the Vita was ahead of its time and the world is a better place with a new Rhythm Heaven on the horizon.
