Jamie Foxx Returns as Electro for Marvel-Sony’s ‘Spider-Man 3’

By Sara Roncero-MenendezOctober 1, 2020

So this isn’t something you see every day. Actor Jamie Foxx will be returning to the big screen as Electro for the Marvel-Sony third Spider-Man movie.

For those of you who don’t remember, or chose to forget, Foxx took on the role of the electrifying supervillain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which starred Andrew Garfield) which was panned by critics and fans alike. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like he’s making a shocking re-do and fighting against Tom Holland’s webslinger instead.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be that surprised. After all, they brought back J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson from the Raimi run. And a leaked email from 2013 shows that Marvel’s Kevin Feige was a big fan of Foxx’s performance in Amazing Spider-Man 2, which means Marvel might have been pulling for this as much as, if not more so, than Sony.

As far as we’ve heard, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolor are all coming back for Spider-Man 3. We don’t have any plot details at this time, nor do we have any idea if Electro will be the main villain of the film or just one of several for the movie. Additionally, we don’t know if the film will re-do his origin story and design, or if he will be the exact same character as in Amazing Spider-Man 2. Hopefully this time around works out better for all involved.

Spider-Man 3 is currently set to debut in theaters on December 17, 2021.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
