How to Redeem Two Free Months of Funimation On Xbox Game Pass

By Keith MitchellOctober 6, 2020

You may have heard that Funimation and Xbox have teamed up to provide existing Xbox Game Pass members with access to Funimation’s anime offering. Yep, it’s big news for anime lovers like myself.

However, before you can start enjoying all the cool anime, there are a few things you need to be aware of. First and most importantly, if you are an existing paying Funimation subscriber, this promo will NOT work for you. This comes directly from Funimation, this promo is for new subscribers to the service.

Can I redeem the Xbox Game Pass promotion coupon if I already have a Funimation subscription or if I have previously redeemed a Funimation subscription promotion coupon?
Unfortunately, this promotion is for first-time subscribers and for users who have not previously redeemed a subscription promotion coupon for Funimation.

Again, this is for existing PAYING members. If you just have a free account, this will work for you. I’ve verified this as I’ve had a Funimation account for some time now, but it was a free account. Using the promo code allowed me to get the two-month free trial.

Secondly, you must select the Premium Plus Monthly plan. Selecting anything else will not work for this promo. And lastly, you will need the promo code sent from Xbox to take advantage of this. If you don’t have it you will not get the two free months.

Now, I’ve heard that this deal hasn’t shown up for everyone, while others have stated it has disappeared.  Thankfully, the promo code is the same for everyone. Simply enter “Gamepass20” and you’ll see the normal $7.99 charge will become zeroed out.

You’ll still need a valid credit card or debit card to finish the checkout process and you may see a temporary hold on your card after checking out. If you do, this will drop off in a few hours.

Proof that the code does in fact work!

So there you go! Two months of Funimation’s Premium Plus, on Xbox. Just keep in mind that once the trial is over, you’ll be charged $7.99 per month. So if you just want to take advantage of the free month, you’ll need to cancel before you’re charged.

How to install Funimation on your Xbox One

You can install the Funimation app for the Xbox One either by doing so on the Xbox One or by logging into the Windows Store and installing it from there.

Windows Store Funimation App Install

  1. Log in to the Windows Store
  2. Search for the Funimation app
  3. Click install on my devices
  4. Select your Xbox One and then click install now.

Once you do this, and assuming you have either the Xbox One powered on or have it set to “Instant-on” under the power mode options.

Xbox One Funimation App Install

  1. Power on the Xbox One
  2. Under the Xbox Store, search for the Funimation app
  3. Click install
