Funimation Adds Clannad Series to the United Kingdom & Ireland

By Josh PiedraOctober 7, 2020
Clannad

Funimation has been making some moves to expand their streaming service and their content to international markets. Today, they announced that both Clannad and Clannad After Story are coming to the streaming service in the United Kingdom and Ireland starting this Friday!

This comes after Funimation detailed their plans to expand their service into Mexico, thus added to their international presence!

Funimation describes the series as follows:

Clannad

Tomoya Okazaki is depressed at the prospect of school. His days are spent considering the path which lies ahead of him, the shadow of his vacant alcoholic father constantly looming over his daily void.
He meets a group of strange girls at his school, each with unique social problems, and begins to gain perspective on the deep loneliness he feels. When the drama club is established, paranormal turmoil unfolds and hearts are broken…

Clannad After Story

An alternate path opens up for Tomoya and Nagisa as they enter their second semester and head towards graduation. Beyond school, they look forward to a family of their own, though not without facing hardships and ultimately tragedy.
After Story follows on from the original Clannad series and further expands on the themes of family, trust, and empathy.

Clannad was originally a visual novel by KEY and written by Jun Maeda. It is considered part of the “holy trinity” of Visual Novel/Anime series along with Air and Kanon. They would go on to make other popular visual novels such as Little Busters and Rewrite. Jun Maeda also embarked on other projects such as Angel Beats and Charlotte.

Clannad is available as a visual novel on Steam while the anime is available from Sentai Filmworks.
