Soulslike game Hellpoint launches in July, Co-op trailer released

Hellpoint, the upcoming action RPG that looks to combine the combat from Soulsborne games with the spooky as hell atmosphere from Dead Space, with some DOOM through in for good measure, now has a release date. Hellpoint will launch on July 30th, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and yes, even the Nintendo Switch. The game is being developed by a small Canadian studio called Cradle Games, and this looks to be their first entry into game development. Don’t let that discourage you as this team is made of persons who’ve worked on many AAA games in the past, but are now working on their own game.

A new trailer has also been released, this one focuses on the co-op drop-in feature. Ever played Dark Souls and had a friend/family member that was a constant backseat gamer? Saying how to do something or how they’re better than you? In Hellpoint they’ll be able to instantly jump into the game thanks supporting co-op split screen. All loot is shared and the second player will also gain experience points to level up thier character, which is pretty damned interesting.

I’ve had some time with this game, first during PAX East 2020, and in again in the comfort of my home thanks to the demo that’s currently available on Steam. Both times I’ve played the game, I’ve come away with some mixed feelings. It has the eerie vibe that the developer was going for, there’s no doubt there.

However, the combat felt off, it wasn’t meaty and that is a key aspect for these types of games. It also a bit buggy, but that was a demo, and the game has shaped up quite a bit since then. Needless to state that I’m looking forward to the full version of the game.

One thing is for sure, this year is shaping up nicely for fans of Soulsborne games. Between this, and Mortal Shells, we’ll be busy for months to come.

For more information on Hell point, be sure to check out the official website.
