Paper Mario The Origami King Gets New Video Preview

By Todd BlackJune 12, 2020
Paper Mario The Origami King

The Paper Mario franchise is a rather curious one as many fans note. The first two games were RPG classics that really put Mario in a fresh and fun setting. Super Paper Mario put a more platformer twist on things but still felt mostly true to the franchise. Then, after Sticker Star arrived…things went downhill, quick. And now, the franchise is about to return via Paper Mario The Origami King.

The announcement for the game was made last month, and now, via a new video tweeted out by Nintendo, we know more about the game and what to expect from it. Though to be fair, some of us didn’t expect certain things…

As you can see, Paper Mario The Origami King is making full use of the Nintendo Switch’s graphics to bring a very visually stunning take on the game. Which includes a vast world to explore and repair and find hidden things.

The ring battle system is also better explained, as you’ll rotate and slide enemies around to make them all in reach of your attacks. A true surprise is the bosses, who are part of the “League Of Stationary”. Meaning you’ll fight inanimate objects like a tape dispenser, a container full of colored pencils, and more.

Paper Mario fans can revel in the fact that partners are back in a certain way. Including having a Bob-Omb, a Kamek Koopa, and even a Toad at your side alongside Bowser Jr.

Fans are decidedly mixed on whether the game will be good or not, and we here at the Outerhaven feel the same way as well. We’ll be discussing more about this on the next episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast! So be sure to catch up with that and we’ll be breaking it down next week!

Paper Mario The Origami King arrives on July 17th.
