JK Simmons Is Signed To Multiple Spider-Man Films

Whether you liked or didn’t like Spider-Man Far From Home (we’re a bit divided here at the Outerhaven), there is one thing we can ALL agree on. The stinger for the film, in which Spider-Man is outed by Mysterio and is painted to be a villain was brilliant. And who better to reveal that piece of news other than J. Jonah Jameson himself? And not just ANY J. Jonah Jameson, but JK Simmons himself!

For those who don’t remember, in the Sam Raimi films JK Simmons played the legendary newspaper editor with such skill that no one else in the minds of fans could compare. And so him returning in Far From Home was a welcome surprise. And now, we’re expecting him to be in the next Spider-Man movie. Which according to JK Simmons, may be a sure thing, but also may not, and may also be something you should expect in more films down the line:

“I don’t know if I would use the word ‘expect’,” he said cagily in a new interview with PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing podcast. “When we signed on for the first movie, we signed a contract to do two sequels as well, which is always …that’s always a one-sided – not always, I guess, but in my case – a one-sided contract where you, y’know, you’re committed to do it, but they’re not necessarily committed to, y’know, use your character in the ensuing movies, so it’s great to have the opportunity, as these things evolve, to be one of the holdovers from the previous version.”

More than likely, given the nature of the MCU version of Spider-Man, JK Simmons will be in the third film in a few scenes where J. Jonah Jameson is blasting Spider-Man for one reason or another before likely admitting that he was wrong. Which of course leaves him open to returning to other Spider-Man films if they are made.

We’ll just have to see how it all plays out!
