I’ve had enough of this bullshit that’s happening in the gaming industry [Updated]

By Keith MitchellJune 21, 2020

Update: Twitch recently posted an announcement regarding the current situation and stated they would be taking action where needed. Also, they will work with law enforcement. Here’s to hoping that they actually do follow up, seeing how the company’s track record isn’t exactly the best.

Your turn now, Mixer and YouTube…..

Hello fellow family, friends, gamers, geeks, and everyone else who frequents The Outerhaven. Today, June 21st, 2020, should have been a day of celebration for all the Father’s in this world. Father’s that devote time, energy, passion, and love towards their family, friends, and even strangers. Sadly, this day has been marred by several disturbing reports of abuse, neglect, or worse, all due to predators lurking in our beloved gaming industry. I, for one, am not about to let that go without saying anything on the matter.

While our voices are not as large as other outlets, we don’t care, and to these cowardly acts, we say this, you need to get the hell out. Many of us here have had an internal conversation, and we’re disgusted regarding what we’re seeing on Twitter today.  I can’t believe in telling you how frustrated I am to see the large number of reports of sexual assault and racism afflicted on individuals in an industry that so many of us (and out there) love. An industry that we’ve aligned ourselves in and try every damned day to become one with. Yet to see people abused and taken advantage of, some by people we may even have looked up to, others who run organizations that we’re part of, it hurts.

To the victims out there, you are brave individuals, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. While I don’t know you, I am a human being, and I love my fellow humans (well, most of them) like I would a brother or a sister. So to see this bullshit that you’re going through, believe me when I say I’m frustrated for you, and I hope you can eventually get out of that darkness. Stay Strong!

To the creeps, cowards, and individuals who continue to commit these acts, you need help. You need to drop everything you’re doing and get some damned help. No more blaming alcohol or whatever it is, you feel caused your issues. None of that! The sole responsibility rests on you, and you need to get help before you accidentally or purposely hurt another person. As much as I’d like to point out the offending individuals, I won’t as I don’t want to give them any more exposure.

To the organizations that either employee, sponsor, or interact with these people, you also need to step up. It’s not about your image or your bottom line. It’s about acknowledging that these people have hurt others, and you’re likely giving them the exposure to continuing doing this, and with no responsibility. I’m sure many of these companies have TOS’s or regulations that prohibit this behavior, so it’s time to act on this. Stop dealing with them; it’s that simple. If they are part of your company, then you need to get to part ways with them. If they’re partners, remove that status. Do not empower those anymore, and do not make it seem like you don’t care about those they’ve affected.

I know that many of you that come here enjoy our content; however, politics isn’t one thing we like to deal with. That said, The Outerhaven was created so that everyone here has their soapbox to stand on, their unique voice, and we will never stop anyone from speaking out against what is wrong. NEVER!

It stinks that this is happening on today of all days, but at the same time, no day is acceptable. What’s happening now is never ok on any day of the week. To abuse someone and possibly ruin their lives is never ok. Being a sexual predator is never ok. Abusing a woman or man is never ok. Stop it and be better than you are now, please.

There is no room in this industry for predators or racists, and those individuals need to be removed from it. The sooner, the better for everyone who is firmly against those persons.
