Destiny 2’s Content Vault Explained

Out with the old, in with the new

The live stream today shed some light on the future of Destiny with new expansions in the pipeline and a new dungeon today but arguably one of the more important bits of information, what’s happening to the legacy content, went mostly unmentioned other than a quick line from Mark Noseworthy stating that “While making technological leaps forward we need to make some big changes to how we treat some of our older legacy content.” If you watched the live stream it can come across that they were trying to avoid this topic altogether but more details have surfaced on Bungie.net regarding the Destiny Content Vault.

In short, the Destiny Content Vault, or DCV, is Bungie removing locations and events from the game that may be added back at a later date. Framed as both a narrative device and a necessity by Bungie, the DCV will see the removal of entire planets from the game but we will also see a reintroduction of older content, I’ve placed the full list of what’s being added and removed below:

I’m personally a bit conflicted about this but I’ll let you read up on the DCV yourselves here and form your own opinions. Are you down with the idea of older content being removed for newer content or do you think there is a better way to go about rotating content, feel free to let us know.

The resident Brit of Outerhaven, however, don't expect refinement from me as I swear like a sailor and I will die on the hill I chose to fight on.
