Crunchyroll Announces Ascendance of a Bookworm II Dub, Rent-A-Girlfriend

Crunchyroll announced a brand-new English dub for Ascendance of a Bookwork Part 2 as well as the Ascendance of a Bookworm OVA! In addition, they also announced that Rent-A-Girlfriend is coming to their streaming service!

The OVA for Ascendance of a Bookworm (episodes 14.5 part 1 and part 2) will launch on Crunchyroll on Saturday, June 13, and episode 15 will launch on Saturday, June 20. All upcoming dubbed episodes for Ascendance of a Bookworm were safely produced and recorded with a remote cast and crew.

Crunchyroll describes the anime as follows:

Ascendance of a Bookworm follows the life of college student and aspiring librarian Motosu Urano who is transported to another world after an unfortunate accident. When she is reborn as Main, the daughter of a poor soldier, she makes it her mission to make books more freely available to everyone in this new world. 

In addition, Crunchyroll announced the English dub cast for Ascendance of a Bookworm which features talent from Tower of God, Carole & Tuesday, Hunter x Hunter, and Magia Record!

Main will be played by Reba Buhr. Previous credits include:

  • “Pokémon Masters” – Misty (2019)
  • “Violet Evergarden” – Cattleya Baudelaire (2018)
  • “Hunter x Hunter” – Ponzu, Podungo Lapoy, and Coco Loo (2012-2013)

Lutz will be played by Jeannie Tirado. Previous credits include:

  • “Tower of God” – Endorsi Jahad
  • “Carole & Tuesday” – Carole
  • “One PIece” – Koala

Turi will be played by Lisa Reimold. Previous credits include:

  • “Gundam Build Divers re:RISE” – Hinata (2020)
  • “Magia Record” – Ui Tamaki, Additional Voices (2020)

Eva will be played by Kirsten Day. Previous credits include:

  • “Fire Emblem Three Houses” – Constance (2019)
  • “Arena of Valor” – Natalya / Wisp (2016)

Fran will be played by Chris Hackney

  • “Tower of God” – Khun Aguero Agnes

Gunther will be played by Kaiji Tang

Ferdinand will be played by Armen Taylor

Benno will be played by Xander Mobus

Delia will be played by Lizzie Freeman

Gil will be played by Laura Stahl

The subtitled series is also currently airing on Crunchyroll, with new simulcast episodes airing every Saturday at 11:45 AM PT. 


Crunchyroll also announced that the highly-anticipated high-energy romantic comedy Rent-A-Girlfriend series is coming to their streaming service this summer! 

Crunchyroll describes the series as follows:

Kinoshita Kazuya is a 20-year-old failure of a college student. He managed to kiss his girlfriend once, but was dumped after a month. “Ugh… Damn it. I never want to go through that again.”

Completely spiteful, Kazuya uses a certain method to date a girl. He goes to their meeting place and suddenly hears,”You’re Kazuya-kun, right?” A beautiful girl brushing her long, black hair behind her ear was there, smiling at him. Her name was Mizuhara Chizuru. Something real is born after just a single rental! A reckless rom-com filled with love and excitement is about to begin!

Fans interested in reading the Rent-A-Girlfriend manga can find the first volume available online now through Kodansha Comics. Kodansha is also giving away five signed print editions of Rent-a-Girlfriend volume 1, with more information available here.

Both series will be available to fans exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide outside of Asia.
