A new Metal Slug was announced but it’s not what you were expecting

By Keith MitchellJune 27, 2020
Metal Slug Code J sceenshot grab-01

Fans of SNK’s 2D side-scrolling shooter, Metal Slug, have been waiting patiently for a new game in the series. Enter the year 2020 where rumors of a new Metal Slug started making the rounds, yet SNK had been quiet about it all. Then just a few minutes ago, we finally got the official word of the game, except it’s not what we were expecting. This new game, Metal Slug Code: J, is a thing but it’s just for mobile devices.

Metal Slug Code: J is currently in development with both SNK and TiMI Studios (Tencent Games), this new title will launch in China, with no word if it will be available anywhere else.

Not much is known about the game as of yet, however, from what I’ve been told this game will feature levels from Metal Slug 1 – 3. It will also support physical controls, so you won’t have to worry about using touch screen controls. There are also new abilities, such as being able to freeze enemies in thier tracks.

Sure, this isn’t what I was looking forward to but all hope isn’t lost yet. This is just one of the two games that were rumored to be in production and there is a console version (supposedly) that’s in development. Seeing how we didn’t even have confirmation on Metal Slug Code: J until today, we can’t rule out the other game either.

For those who wanted a console/PC version, until we get confirmation, let me point out another game you should be playing. That game is Blazing Chrome, which is a modern-age, indie title that takes the best from Konami’s ill-fated Contra and SNK’s Metal Slug, polishes it up and presents an amazing, yet tough as nails experience.

What do you think about the announcement of Metal Slug Code: J? Does it turn you off as it’s a mobile game or are you willing to give it a shot? Let us know in the comments.
