How to Play as Zangetsu in BloodStained: Ritual of the Night

By Keith MitchellMay 11, 2020
Bloodstained ritual of the night Zangetsu-01

As of May 7, 2020, Zangetsu, the samurai character in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was made available as a playable character. Yes, we know the game has been available for a while and many of you have likely stopped playing the game. Still, better late than never, right?

However, just because he’s a playable character doesn’t mean that he’s available from the start. Nope, you’ll have to meet a requirement first before you’re able to play as the sword-wielding character voiced by Solid Snake himself, David Hayter.

Here’s how you play as Zangetsu

Unfortunately, if you’ve just picked up Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, of you’ve owned the game for a while and haven’t by beat the game with the good ending, you’re going to be frustrated. Yep, that’s right, the only way (for now) to play as Zangetsu is to reach the end of the game and do everything required to get the good ending.

Check out our review of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Meaning you need to progress through the game to find the legendary sword, Zangetsuto. Using this weapon will allow you to free Gebel from the true final enemy. Of course, finding the sword isn’t as simple as walking into a room and you’ll need several abilities to earn it. Only then can you get the good ending.

For PC gamers, you could also just download a 100% completed game save. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch owners don’t have such a shortcut.

As Zangetsu, he plays quite differently than Miram. He doesn’t have access to the crafting or shard system, however, after playing with him he doesn’t need them. As soon as you start playing with him you’ll notice that he’s extremely overpowered. His normal attacks are beefy, and you can buff them via his ability called “Annihilated Mind”, which empowers his blade with fire, ice, and lightning attributes.

Finally, he also has access to several special moves that are performed like those from a fighting game or another similar game.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
