Both DotEMU and LizardCube are teasing some sort of announcement for April 17, 2020

Update: The announcement was both for the release date of Streets of Rage 4, April 30th, 2020, and the return of the Battle Mode. You can read more on that here.

Original story below:

While we know that Streets of Rage 4 will be released soon, we still don’t have a release date. Now, both LizardCube and DotEMU have been teasing an announcement of sorts on their respected Twitter accounts. But whatever could this mean?

Whatever it is, it’s related to Streets of Rage 4. Right?

News tomorrow 🍎 🍗
Thank you for waiting!

Tomorrow.

Well, If I was a betting man, I’d imagine that we’re either going to get the actual release date, or we could see the game being released. Tomorrow is a Friday, so its not too farfetched to believe we could see the game being dropped tomorrow so that we can enjoy over the weekend. I sure many of you are aware that a specific outlet announced that the release date would be April 23, 2020. However, both LizardCube and another source confirmed that was not the case.

We're aware that a release date has leaked earlier. Right now we aren't able to confirm this will be the correct date.

We apologize for the confusion and we'll keep you updated as soon as possible.

Whatever the case, both tweets have many on the edge of their seats and for good reason. Many have waited for this follow-up to Sega’s acclaimed 2D brawler, present company included. After several hands-on, and speaking with the developers, I’m beyond ready to play Streets of Rage 4 in the comfort of my own home. So this these cryptic teases have my hopes up.

Regarding what tomorrow’s news is, we’ll be here to let you know.

Streets of Rage 4 releases for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this Spring 2020.
