Nintendo Planning Super Mario Remasters For Anniversary?

By Todd BlackMarch 30, 2020

Recently, Nintendo gave us a brief glimpse into what is coming up in 2020 for the Nintendo Switch, including the release of Xenoblade Chronicles Remastered in May. However, as for the rest of the year, it was a bit…vague. However, reports from VGC and Eurogamer seem to paint a different picture of things, and that picture…is Mario remasters.

According to them, Nintendo is aiming to release several different remasters of key Super Mario games, including Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. Why are they doing this? It’s to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise.

This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen something like this on the Switch, various “Deluxe” versions of games like Super Mario Kart 8, Super Mario U, Pokken Tournament, and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze have shown that these can both work as Switch titles, and sell well. To that end, their reports also state that Super Mario 3D World Deluxe is coming.

Whether this is what the Switch needs to sell well in 2020 is a bit up for debate, but given the love of Mario, there’s little doubt that these games will sell, especially to those who haven’t had the chance to play them before.
