Astral Chain Director Says Game Sold “Above Expectations”

By Todd BlackJanuary 7, 2020
Astral Chain 2

Nintendo in 2019 had a very strong showing of titles for the Nintendo Switch, including their 3rd party lineup with games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Astral Chain. The latter of which came from Platinum Games, who are also making Bayonetta 3 for the Nintendo Switch.

Numbers for 3rd party games don’t always get shown off like first-party titles, even though we know that games like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Octopath Travel sold well over 1 million units. We can’t say that for Astral Chain though. Which doesn’t mean it failed as a title, we just don’t know how much it sold.

However, in an interview with Famitsu magazine, Hideki Kamiya and Takahisa Taura said some interesting things about their games. Including Taura noting:

“Thankfully, Astral Chain has sold above expectations.”

That’s always good to hear, especially when it comes to new properties and IPs from various publishers. Granted, we still don’t know how much it sold, but if Platinum is happy with the sales, that could lead to even more exclusive titles on the Switch, and we know they’re up for that because they truly do like Nintendo.

We’ll just have to see what they have in store for us, including announcing when Bayonetta 3 will release…
