Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order quality and performance modes for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X

There’s been a lot of yummy Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order info that was recently dropped. I’m referring to all of the hands-on previews and footage that was released the other day. However, what could be seen as the biggest announcement is that both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X will have a quality and performance mode.

According to Respawn Entertainment Producer Paul Hatfield, both consoles will allow gamers to select whatever mode they prefer. The quality mode will cap the frame rate at 30 fps, however, it wasn’t stated if the resolution is 1080p, native 4K or upscaled. While the performance mode will try to maintain a solid 60 FPS. The goal is a constant 60 FPS, yet there will be segments in the game that may cause the frame rate to drop.

For those wondering about the base PS4 and Xbox One, both will be stuck at a 30 FPS. Of course, if you want the highest possible quality and performance, well there’s always the PC version. Which I’ve heard good things about.

It can’t be stated enough that you have to appreciate developers that incorporate this feature into their games. Initially, this option was absent in many PS4 Pro and Xbox One games, but now it seems to be commonplace. That said, I’ve never felt compelled to choose the quality settings over the performance mode. For me, the compromise of a lesser frame rate for a slightly better video quality doesn’t make sense. Especially since there hasn’t been a huge difference between the two. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne comes to mind, as the performance mode (at least on Xbox One X) looks amazing as it is.  Give me that silky smooth 60 FPS or close to it, anytime.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order releases this November 15th, 2019, for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
