While this as already confirmed some time ago, the official Twitter channel for The Surge 2 has announced that both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions support upscaled4K@30FPS and 1080p60fps.

Which means that we’ll be able to tackle the deadly secrets of Jericho City in glorious 4K at 30 frames per second. Or dropping down to the 1080p at 60 frames per second to see every frame of lush animation. Now, fans of the original game will realize that Deck 13 previously enabled the same option to toggle between looks or performance in the first game.

This still leaves two questions unanswered. 4K in both games is upscaled, but from what resolution? Sure, it’s not that important and it’s hard to tell the difference between native 4K and upscaled.  It should be noted that the original game was also upscaled 1800p, using the older FLEDGE game engine. While the sequel using an “upgraded and improved version of the FLEDGE game engine. There’s also the question on how The Surge 2 will perform on the base PS4 and Xbox One. Both consoles ran the original game at 30FPS, with the PS4 resolution topping out at 1080p and the Xbox One at 900. Despite that, both were received well and were optimized, allowing for some great gameplay.

Either way, I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. After watching more footage than I should have and have multiple sessions with the alpha and beta, I’m ready. Ready to tackle Jericho City and all those new baddies who want to recycle me for parts.

The Surge 2 releases on October 24th, 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
