Wal-Mart has started to remove violent game advertisements from its stores

Following the events of two mass shootings that took place in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, our government decided to place the blame on video games. Where have I heard that before?

As a response to our government’s ignorance and stupidity on acknowledging the actual reason the United States of America has a gun control issue,  Wal-mart wants to help curve the problem. By removing any sort of advertisement of violent games from its stores. This includes signs, displays, videos, demos and anything else that promotes a video showing violence.

Reports coming in from Reddit, Twitter, and Vice Games, have confirmed with sources instructions that have been passed down by corporate. In these instructions, employees must remove these items.

A statement from Vice Game’s article includes the following from a Wal-Mart employee;

I went into work yesterday and they handed me a copy of the instructions to remove the violent signage and gaming displays,” a Walmart employee who received the notice and asked to be quoted anonymously told VICE. “And I immediately threw it away because it’s obviously a way to shift the blame from the real problem regarding the mass shootings. I didn’t get to confirm this yesterday but they aren’t doing anything about the sales of guns and ammo in the store.

Whoever that employee is, I salute you!

I got to be 10000% honest here and I’m really upset at both our government. One that can’t pull its head out of its ass to see the real problem. As well as Wal-Mart for being dumb enough to believe that video games are the root of these mass shootings.

If you could only see how much I’m shaking my head and facepalming right now. C’mon America, we’re an embarrassment when it comes to this topic and acts like this only make us look worse. I’m not a fan of anyone being shot or committing violence against anyone. But do we really believe that video games are the cause of these acts of cowardice? What will it take for the government to realize that placing the blame on scapegoat does not resolve anything?

Of course, Wal-Mart hasn’t made any mention of removing firearms from any of its stores where the law allows them. Instead, removing anything related to violence in video games is how the company wants to show that they’re a safe environment. Never mind that one can walk into their stores, purchase a firearm. Sure, let’s get rid of virtual violence while still promoting real guns. That solves problems.

one more way of parsing this data:

–7 of the 40 deadliest mass shootings since 1949 occurred in 10 years before 1994 assault weapons ban

–2 occurred in 10 years the ban was in effect

–13 occurred in the first 10 years after ban expired

–13 occurred in the last 5 years

Now I wonder how far this is going to go. With several high profile games releasing in several months, titles such as DOOM Eternal, Borderlands 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Outerworlds. Games that feature violence How will this scapegoating affect the sale of these titles in stores such as Wal-Mart? How many other retailers will follow suit in the coming weeks?

How about we do something about this? Like maybe renewing the assault weapon ban that was allowed to expire in 2004? How about better background checks and not allowing a sale of a firearm to proceed if it takes too long? I dunno, just two ideas’s off the top of my head.
