Pokemon Sword and Shield Reveals More Pokemon, New Rivals

By Todd BlackAugust 7, 2019
Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield is still over three months away from release on the Nintendo Switch, but the team at the Pokemon Company have been releasing new trailers every so often to unveil new details about the game. And now, the newest one has added even more Pokemon to the Galar region, and unveiled some more key characters you’ll meet in the game.

First up, it appears that like the Alola region, Galar is going to have some “regional variants” of Pokemon. The ones shown in the trailer were Galarian Weezing, Zigzagoon, and Linoone. But in a big twist, Linoone can now evolve (which it couldn’t when it was introduced in the Johto Region) into Obstagoon. This is also the first time a non-Kanto Pokemon had a regional variant, so who knows who else will get the same treatment, and a possible new evolution.

A brand new Pokemon has also arrived in Morpeko. Who is a “form shift” Pokemon. In “Fully Belly Mode”, this gerbil-like Pokemon has a certain look, and then, in “Hangry Mode” it goes full Dark-type and completely changes its look.

We also learned about two rivals via Bede and Marnie. Details weren’t given about them, however, in the case of Marnie, she has a rabid fanbase known as Team Yell. So how that’ll play out in the game will be interesting to see.

You can watch the full trailer below, Pokemon Sword and Shield comes out on November 15th.
