Cyberpunk 2077’s Deep Dive Leaves Us Wanting For More

By Keith MitchellAugust 30, 2019
Cyberpunk 2077

Last year, CD PROJEKT RED gave us a glimpse into the world of Cyberpunk by providing a large slice of gameplay footage. A year later to that footage, the company has provided yet another look with a new “Deep Dive” video.

This new 15-minute video shows off two different scenarios are played out, while CD PROJEKT RED is careful not to reveal too much of the game ahead of the games’ release.

Two builds that are available in the game, the Netrunner and Strong Solo, were shown off. The while the Netrunner focuses on stealth and taking advantage of hacking and manipulation, while the Strong Solo is all about going in hard and fast. Of course, those are just two builds and by no means are you confined to either. Thanks to the RPG elements, you’re free to create the kind of character you want. If could be a mixture of what was shown, or something completely different. Exactly the sort of freedom I was looking forward to.

While it was shown briefly, CD PROJEKT RED also dropped some info on being able to choose your own vehicles. During the footage, they state that you can pick between several vehicles. Of which includes a motorcycle and an armored car. There’s also talk of other vehicles that are special and haven’t been shown off or talked about yet. They touch on this in a developer Q&A panel, which was also recorded and is shown below. I wonder if the selection of vehicles could rival Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto 5.

This is also the first time that the “Lifepath” system has been shown off. Here you can select between three different paths, Nomad, Corporate and Street Kid. Each providing a unique story, dialogue and gameplay options. It also ensures that Cyberpunk 2077 will have more than enough to keep you coming back, even after you’ve beaten it.

I have to say that the more I see and hear about Cyberpunk 2077, the more I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Even though today’s look was a short one, the world that CD PROJEKT RED has crafted is pretty much the ultimate Bladerunner fantasy. One that many games have attempted to emulate but fell short of it. While it’s too early to tell if the same fate happens with this open-world RPG, so far I’m liking every I’m seeing.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases on April 16, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
