Paul Rudd Joins Upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ Movie

The next Ghostbuster film has a new cast member, and it is none other than Ant-Man and Wet Hot America Summer star Paul Rudd. According to Variety, Rudd is in final negotiations to join next year’s film, and will play a teacher. Other cast addition include Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and Mckenna Grace.

Jason Reitman will direct the upcoming film. Notably, he’s the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two films of the series. It’s not surprising that he told Sony Pictures that he “wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise.” The series last had a reboot with 2016’s Ghostbusters, which performed poorly at the box office. It seemed another film wouldn’t happen for a while, and looks like this upcoming installment will ignore the plot of the 2016 film in favor of staying true to the originals.

Sony Pictures has yet to reveal any plot details, but casting rumors suggest that the film will focus on a single mom played by Coon, her son played by Wolfhard, and the son’s teacher played by Rudd. Of the actors from the original two movies, none have been confirmed. However, rumors suggest that Sigourney Weaver may return as Dana Barrett.

So a lot of rumors at the moment. What do we know for sure? Well, the new Ghostbuster will arrive to haunt theaters sometime summer 2020. As for Paul Rudd, he will also star in Netflix’s upcoming series “Living With Yourself.”

Andrew comes from the majestic land of New Jersey (the part that doesn't smell). A big fan of sketch comedy, he writes and performs it whenever possible. He gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.
